Below is a Step-by-Step Guide for creating new podcasts.

Step-by-Step Guide

  1. Listen to the audio provided for the podcast and ensure it meets our Video Creation, Editing Guides and Best Practices
  2. Use the provided PowerPoint to create a YouTube Video Thumbnail. You can use one of the WSB branded 16x9 PowerPoint templates to create a thumbnail.
    1. Take a screen-shot of the PowerPoint slide, or save the slide as a .jpg.
    2. Edit the image in Adobe Photoshop and ensure it is 1280 x 720 pixels .jpg.

  3. Using Camtasia (request licence from Teaching and Learning team) create an MP4 video using the audio and the thumbnail as the background.

    1. Share > Local File
    2. Custom production settings
    3. Default settings plus
      1. MP4
      2. Size > Video Size 1280 x 720 (Checked) Keep Aspect Ratio
    1. Add audio to track 1
    2. Add the thumbnail to track 2 and extend it to display the entire length of the video
    3. Listen to the video
    4. Export the video file.
  4. Upload the video to Youtube.com using Lastpass and the wsobmkt@gmail.com account
    1. Use YouTube as the Wisconsin School of Business at the University of Wisconsin-Madison
    2. Upload the MP4 Video File to YouTube
    3. Add the provided “Title” and “Description”
    4. Add the custom Video thumbnail
    5. Click “Next” and select “No, It’s not made for kids”
    6. Click “Next” and “Next Again
    7. Under Visibility > Publish Now set the video to be “Unlisted”
    8. Click “Done”

  5. Use the share link to add a link to the video to the website


Captions: For accessibility purposes, we should include captions in videos. Youtube automatically generates captions, but these are imperfect and must be reviewed and edited. Youtube may take some time to generate them, but once you have the edits you need to make, do the following:

  1. Login into the WSB Youtube account (see above)
  2. Find the video you want to edit and select "Edit Video"
  3. Then select "Subtitles" from the left sidebar
  4. Hover over the automatic captions an select the three dots
  5. Select "Edit on Classic Studio"
  6. Select "Edit". From here you will be able to make any changes to the captioning, click save when you're done and it will publish!
